Barry Sloane (born Barry Paul Sloan; February 10, 1981) is an English actor. He has appeared in numerous TV shows, notably the BAFTA award-winning dramas Pleasureland and The Mark of Cain. In the show, he portrays Aiden Mathis and was promoted to a series regular character just a few episodes into the second season.
Life and career[]
Sloane was born Barry Paul Sloan in Liverpool. He trained as a musician and actor before landing his first professional acting role in the film 'In his Life: The John Lennon Story'.
In 2006, Sloane made his West End Debut in Willy Russell's Blood Brothers. In December 2007, he began playing serial killer Niall Rafferty in Channel 4's, 'Hollyoaks' after an explosive storyline lasting a year which earned Sloane 3 award nominations, the character left in 2008, making his final appearance in late night spin-off series Hollyoaks Later. This was Sloane's second role in the show, having played a barrister in December 2006. In 2010 he appeared in the ITV Drama adaptation of Peter Robinson's Aftermath and later that year he also played Kieran Callaghan in the BBC serial medical drama Holby City.
In the summer of 2009 Sloane appeared as Troy Whitworth in Jez Butterworth's critically acclaimed new play Jerusalem at The Royal Court Theatre London. The play received amazing reviews and was given a West End transfer in January 2010; after a record-breaking sellout run it was announced that the play would transfer once again, this time to Broadway.
He made his Broadway debut in Jerusalem at the Music Box Theatre in New York on February 4, 2011. In November 2011, it was announced on 'Variety' that Barry had been cast in Joseph Reuben's 'Penthouse North' starring alongside Michael Keaton and Michelle Monaghan. The film is scheduled for release in late 2012.
In February 2012, it was announced on Deadline.com that Sloane had landed the male lead in the new ABC/20th Century Fox TV Pilot Gotham playing Boyo.
Sloane is engaged to Katy O'Grady, the fourth-place runner-up of the most recent series of Sky One programme, Project Catwalk. The couple have a daughter together (born c. 2010).
